June Aug 2026: District wise rainfall in India’s SW Monsoon

In Aug 2026, India received 213.9 mm (268.8 or 5.45% above normal in Aug 2025, 295.5 mm or 15.8% above normal in Aug 2024 [i], 162.7 mm or 36.2% below normal in Aug 2023 [ii], 263.8 mm in Aug 2022, 3.5% above the normal [iii]) or 16.1 % below normal rainfall of 254.9 mm as per India Meteorological department (IMD). In Aug 2021, the rainfall was 195.9 mm [iv], about 24.13% below normal and in Aug 2020, the rainfall was 327 mm [v], or about 26.6% above normal.

The month wise distribution of rainfall in June July Aug during SW Monsoon 2026 has been as follows.

State wise rainfall As can be seen from the attached IMD rainfall table for June-Aug 2026 (Also see the IMD’s State Rainfall Map dated Sept 1 2026 above), Only one (Ladakh) states/ Union Territories (UTs) had large excess rainfall (above 60% surplus) in June-Aug 2026. Two (Odisha and Diu-Daman-Dadra-Nagarhaveli) states and Union Territories (UTs) had Excess (rainfall 20-59% above normal) in this three month period. 19 states had normal rainfall with rainfall between 19% deficit and 19% surplus, while 14 states & UTs had deficit rainfall with rainfall 20-59% below normal in these three months. Meghalaya had the highest deficit at 58%, Ladakh had the highest surplus % at 195%, but had the lowest rainfall at 49.2 mm. Diu-Daman-Dadra-Nagarhaveli had the highest rainfall at 2735.3 mm.

Sub-Division wise rainfall According to the attached IMD rainfall table for sub-division wise rainfall (Also see the IMD Sub Div Rainfall Map dated Sept 1 2026 above), out of IMD’s 36 subdivisions, none had Large Excess rainfall during June Aug 2026. Only one (Odisha) subdivision had Excess rainfall during June Aug 2026. 18 sub divisions had normal rain, while 17 sub divisions had Deficit rainfall. The Highest deficit was 43% for Rayalseema. Highest surplus was 26% in Odisha. The Highest rainfall was 2263.4 mm in Konkan & Goa. Lowest rainfall was 154.8 mm in Rayalseema.
