about SANDRP

South Asia Network on Dams, Rivers and People (SANDRP) is an informal network working on issues related to rivers, communities and large scale water infrastructure like dams: their environmental and social impacts, their performance and issues related to governance of rivers and dams.

This blog is our effort to comment on happenings related to Dams, Rivers and People across India and beyond. We also hope to share SANDRP’s work through this medium and to create a platform for an informed debate and discussion on these issues, through comments. Some of the issues raised here do not receive the necessary attention through mainstream media.

SANDRPs work focuses on outreach, awareness generation, dissemination and advocacy. To take this work forward, your comments and suggestions are welcome.

  6. I compliment to SANDRP for their initiative and contributions on water related issues and infrastructures. With formation of new Ministry of Jal Shakti, government is trying to bring all water related issues under one ministry.

I feel to make impact, government may be required to formulate Integrated and composite National Policy on Water so that all stake holders are in win win situation.

  9. In 2006 your organisation published an article by Himanshu Thakkar & Swarup Bhattacharyya, called “reservoir siltation in India, latest studies – revealing results, a wake-up call”. We are a consultancy established in Cyprus; we bundle knowledge on reservoir siltation worldwide and promote initiatives and funding to undertake remedial projects. Our questions are: Do you have an overview of other, more recent, publications made in India on the subject? Did you write about the subject again after 2006? Have other initiatives been undertaken in India since that time?

Thanking you in advance for your response.
